A New Friend

Where to begin?
Sideways glances as they walk away
Well let’s pretend
Forward-looking thoughts are not obscene
But silence wins
Detached, renewed, and free to bloom
To your chagrin
If you lost your mind, would you even know it?
Sorry, kindred outsiders
Sometimes pain must be bartered
Lonely, feeling it slowly
Now and then
An old soul makes a new friend
High-minded sin
Lived to bathe in the golden fountain
It was truly bliss
Heightened senses made it seem so worth it
What lies therein?
Betrayed, dismayed, devoid of purpose
And in the end
The saviors and prophets were all absurdists
Sorry, kindred outsiders
Sometimes pain must be bartered
Lonely, feeling it slowly
Now and then
An old soul makes a new friend
Come back and do it
Just put your soul into it
Just like nothing really matters
Nothing really matters
A wrong turn made at every intersection
But nothing really matters
Nothing really matters
Sometimes a late bloom
Is a sight for sore eyes
Sorry, kindred outsiders
Sometimes pain must be bartered
Lonely, feeling it slowly
Now and then
An old soul makes a new friend

Still Intact

Blurred faces inside my home
I’ve got to confront them while I atone
It’s just a walk through my awkward past
And all those days spent feeling
I was less than last
Subterranean memories
From the bottom to the middle
With the greatest ease
Just yesterday we listened to that sacred song
Just yesterday we learned that we could do no wrong
The screen is turning black
And now I’m on my own
Disguised, but still intact
Fully freed of my ego
Sweet visions, my remedies
With each passing moment it begins to ease
And while this might just be a false memory
It’s still a symbol of what can never be
In the darkness, we still bloomed
A forgotten garden long past its use
And though there’s still some bitterness that drags us down
A spoonful of medicine helps the sugar come out
The screen is turning black
And now I’m on my own
Disguised, but still intact
Fully freed of my ego
If I’d only known that these
Would be the better days
Well, we could’ve found some peace
That would’ve lasted until we grayed
We will never be at fault for this failure
The screen is turning black
And now I’m on my own
Disguised, but still intact
Fully freed of my ego
The screen is turning black
And now I’m on my own
Disguised, but still intact
Fully freed of my ego

Ignorance Is Bliss

You’ve really confused the point of this
An arrogant display of it
Somehow you’ve earned the praise on high
Each day a single setting sun
A new set of gaffes to outrun
Before you know it, we’re out of time
We are the souls who traveled far
And so far away from the source
How did we land on opposing sides?
It should’ve never come to this
Well, can we rewind?
Back to a time we’ll reminisce
You’ll have to decide
The time is really running out
And regret is truly in store
Well, even if this doesn’t work
It’s still better than what was before
In some ways, it’s all set and done
And you know you’ve had all your fun
But these dreams aren’t what they used to be
I know you’ve done the best you could
Beyond the brink, you’re becoming you
It’s just that it seems so bittersweet
It feels like everything is changing me
But I can’t seem to change anything
I guess it’s just poetic futility
It should’ve never come to this
Well, can we rewind?
Back to a time we’ll reminisce
You’ll have to decide
The time is really running out
And regret is truly in store
Well, even if this doesn’t work
It’s still better than what was before
